Liar Game will return for a second season after its 26-episode first run
The Madhouse adaptation of Shinobu Kaitani's deception thriller confirmed Season 2 right after its finale; ABEMA and Niconico Live will stream the whole first season free in Japan in October.
Nao Kanzaki's run in the game isn't over yet. The Liar Game TV anime will get a second season, the production confirmed through its official X account after TV Tokyo broadcast the 26th and final episode of the first season. No broadcast window has been attached to the sequel so far.
To mark the occasion, character designer Kei Tsuchiya drew a commemorative illustration. The official website also posted comments from four of the principal cast members - Saya Hitomi (Nao Kanzaki), Takeo Otsuka (Shinichi Akiyama), You Taichi (Yuji Fukunaga) and Natsuki Hanae (Norihiko Yokoya) - alongside the fifth installment of its serialized interview with original creator Shinobu Kaitani.
Madhouse's first season
The studio behind Frieren: Beyond Journey's End handled the animation, and the show ran on TV Tokyo and other channels from April 2026 until this week. Asami Kawano directed under chief director Yuzo Sato, Tatsuhiko Urahata oversaw the scripts and series composition, and Yugo Kanno wrote the score.
The hook is a battle of bluffs. Nao, a student whose honesty borders on gullibility, is handed a letter plus a case packed with 100 million yen and told she is now a player in a contest where rivals try to swindle each other out of their money. Out of her depth, she recruits Shinichi Akiyama, an ex-swindler, to help her through.
Catching up before Season 2
Viewers in Japan get two free marathon chances in October. ABEMA will stream all 26 episodes on October 10 and 11, while Niconico Live splits the run over two days, with episodes 1-13 on October 17 and 14-26 on October 18. Outside Japan, Crunchyroll carries the first season in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and 39 further territories.
Where the story comes from
Kaitani's manga ran in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump for a decade, from 2005 to 2015, and fills nineteen collected books. He revisited it this year with Liar Game: The Last Game, a short run in Grand Jump Mucha between February and July. Japanese audiences first met Nao and Akiyama in live action: Fuji TV's 2007 drama came back for more in 2009, and two movies, Liar Game: The Final Stage and Liar Game: Reborn, carried it on in 2010 and 2012. South Korea's tvN made its own version in 2014, and a stage play followed in 2023.
