From Overshadowed to Overpowered: Second Reincarnation of a Talentless Sage is a fantasy anime from the summer of 2026. It aired 12 episodes from July 2 to September 17, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other Japanese channels, and it streamed on Crunchyroll. The studio EMT Squared made it, with Hisashi Ishii as director and Deko Akao writing the series plan. The story began in 2018 as a free web novel by Arata Shiraishi on the site Shousetsuka ni Narou. It then became a light novel, a type of short illustrated novel, with art by Uodenim, and a manga with art by Kentarou.

The title gives a big hint. This hero has been reborn not once, but twice. In his first life, he lived in the modern world. After that, he was reborn in a world of magic, where he became known as the great sage Ephtal. He spent his whole life trying to reach the very top of magic. He worked hard every single day. The head of the school is Merlin, and she has a surprising link to his past: she was his adopted daughter in his earlier life. A demon girl named Anastasia is also an important character. As Ephtal's great power becomes known, it starts to shake up the world around him, and old legends slowly wake up.

This is a classic 'overpowered hero' story, a popular style in Japanese fantasy where the main character is much stronger than everyone else. The fun comes from seeing others react to his skills, and from his wish to bring back the true art of magic. Under the action, there is also a gentle idea. The talent he thought he lacked was never the whole story. His hard work still counts, even hundreds of years later.
