Three years after it was first announced, the TV anime of Rebuild World finally has a face. Kadokawa unveiled the series' first key visual on October 3 together with its core production team, the first substantial update since the project surfaced at Anime Expo in July 2023. When it will air, and where, has not been announced.

The new artwork puts Akira in the wreckage of a dead city with a pistol in his hand, while Alpha stands at his back.

A slum kid and a ghost in the ruins

Nahuse's story takes place long after human civilization reached its height and fell apart. What is left are sprawling ruins packed with old-world relics, technology that the survivors are still trying to make sense of, and the hunters who risk their lives retrieving it. Akira is an orphan living hand to mouth in the slums who dreams of joining those hunters, even though he has no training and barely any equipment. That changes when Alpha, a mysterious, ghost-like woman, appears and decides to coach him. The production bills the show as sci-fi battle action, and AniList files it under action and sci-fi.

Who is making it

Raging Bull is the animation studio. Tsukasa Sakurai serves as chief director, with credits that include Because I, the True Saint, Was Banished, That Country Is Done For! and directing Ryūsatsu no Kyōkotsu. Under him, Shingo Uchida directs the series; as an episode director, Uchida has worked on Attack on Titan Season 3, Vinland Saga and After the Rain.

Naoki Tozuka handles series composition, coming off both seasons of I Was Reincarnated as the 7th Prince as well as True Saint. Hiromi Kato heads a group of character designers; Kato's past designs include Kobato., Goblin Slayer II and the two seasons of A Returner's Magic Should Be Special.

The principal cast was named back in July 2023, a few weeks after the announcement, and the same three names lead it now. Akira is voiced by Daiki Yamashita, Alpha by Yurika Kubo, and Sheryl by Honoka Inoue.

From web serial to bestseller

Nahuse started posting Rebuild World on Shōsetsuka ni Narō and Kakuyomu in February 2017. ASCII Media Works brought it to print under the Dengeki no Shin Bungei label in May 2019, with art by Gin, while yish handled world design and cell the mechanical designs. Kirihito Ayamura's manga version began running in Dengeki Maoh in July 2019 and now spans 16 collected volumes. J-Novel Club has offered both the novels and the manga digitally in English since 2022.

Together, the novels and the manga have 1.7 million copies in circulation, and the novels ranked fifth among tankōbon titles in the 2020 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guide.

Kadokawa has not yet released a trailer or named an airing window.
