Rainy Day Serenade, Haruka Kawachi's Meiji-era time-slip romance, reaches TV in April 2027 from Tezuka Productions
The anime of Haruka Kawachi's 14-volume Kiss manga revealed its key visual, teaser PV and leads on November 6: Yume Miyamoto as Hina Katagiri and Takeo Otsuka as Takaaki Hongo. Takashi Kamei directs for an April 2027 start.
Since she was small, Hina Katagiri has dreamed of rainy days in a garden she has never seen, and of the boy she plays with there. In Rainy Day Serenade, the high school student finds that garden for real and steps out of modern Tokyo into 1907, the 40th year of the Meiji era. Waiting there is Takaaki Hongo, heir to the Hongo family and its trading company, who takes her for his fiancée Hinako and brings her to a house where a girl with Hina's face already lives.
The TV anime of Haruka Kawachi's manga goes on air in April 2027. Its official website and X account opened on November 6 with a first key visual, a teaser PV, character designs for the two leads and a congratulatory illustration from Kawachi. Broadcasters and an exact date are still to come.
Yume Miyamoto, whose credits include Yomi no Tsugai, voices the cheerful, forthright Hina. Takeo Otsuka, heard in Medalist, plays Takaaki, who still remembers a girl he met as a child.
The team at Tezuka Productions
Takashi Kamei, who directed My Home Hero, leads the adaptation. Yoko Yonaiyama, whose series composition credits include Kamiina Botan, structures the scripts, and Nobuteru Yuki, the character designer of Under Ninja, draws the cast. Hiroshi Kato is art director, Kunio Tsujita handles color design and Yoshie Ito is director of photography.
A finished manga
Kawachi wrote and drew the series for Kodansha's josei magazine Kiss from November 2014 to November 2025, and it runs to 14 volumes, so the adaptation works from a completed story. English readers get it soon: Kodansha USA licensed the manga and will publish it in two-in-one omnibus editions, with the first scheduled for January 2027.
The launch also came with events for readers in Japan. The official site lists an exhibition of Kawachi's original artwork with a signing and talk show by the author, and a campaign marking the opening of the X account that gives away posters signed by the cast.
