Mercedes Grunewald finally has her poster. The TV anime of Mercedes and the Waning Moon: The Dungeoneering Feats of a Discarded Vampire Aristocrat unveiled its first main visual this week, putting its heroine front and center, and the production has promised fresh reveals every month until the show premieres in January 2027. Cast additions, promotional videos and further staff names are all on that monthly schedule.

Mercedes is the only confirmed role so far, voiced by Anna Nagase. Behind the scenes, Kunihisa Sugishima is directing at studio Teddy, Jun Kumagai is writing the series composition, Nami Shoyama is designing the characters, and the music comes from R・O・N and Shuhei Mutsuki.

A vampire with nothing to inherit

In her previous life, Mercedes was an office worker in modern Japan who came to regret reaching the end without any real purpose. She is reborn as a vampire, the daughter of a noble father and a concubine he has cast aside, which rules her out of the line of succession. Growing up in the countryside with her mother and determined to live without regrets this time, she becomes a Seeker and heads into dungeons to build strength and earn money for her family. The deeper she goes, the more she runs into monsters and a larger mystery about what the dungeons actually are.

The books behind it

The story began as a web novel on Shosetsuka ni Naro, serialized from October 2018 to November 2022. TO Books has published the light novels under its TO Bunko imprint since May 2021, with illustrations by KeG, and five volumes are out. Pochi Edoya's manga adaptation launched in Comic Corona in August 2021 and has reached six volumes. J-Novel Club publishes both the novels and the manga in English.
