Mai Kuraki extends her Guinness record with a 30th Detective Conan theme song
Guinness World Records certified the singer on September 27 for the most theme songs by one artist for an animated series, nine years after she first set the mark with 21; a 30-song best album follows on November 11.
Nine years after Guinness World Records first recognized her with 21 songs, Mai Kuraki has pushed her own mark to 30. At a ceremony in Tokyo on September 27, she received a certificate for the most theme songs performed by a single artist for one animated series, all of them written for Detective Conan.
The record-setting track is "Ai de Zenbu Dakishimete Aishite" (Embrace It All With Love and Love Me), which debuted a day earlier as the new ending of episode 1214, broadcast September 26 on Yomiuri TV and Nippon TV. A digital release follows on October 10. Number 29 had arrived just before it: "Hallelujah" served as the theme of the two-hour 30th-anniversary special that aired September 25 in Nippon TV's Friday Road Show slot.
"It feels like a dream, and I am proud," Kuraki said at the ceremony, according to anime.com, crediting the record to everyone who has loved the series. Speaking to Mantan Web, she said she was happy to help celebrate the show's milestone year through her singing.
Twenty-six years of Conan songs
Her association with the franchise began in 2000, when "Secret of my heart" was used as an ending theme, and the partnership has now spanned roughly 26 years. The anime itself premiered in 1996 and is still on the air, which is why this record lands in its 30th broadcast year.
