Hirayasumi casts Yuma Uchida as its carefree lead ahead of a January 2027 NHK premiere
Production +h.'s adaptation of Keigo Shinzo's award-winning manga revealed its first three cast members, a main visual and a teaser with the characters' voices.
A 29-year-old with no girlfriend, no steady job and no plan, and no complaints about any of it, is headed to NHK this winter. The TV anime of Keigo Shinzo's Hirayasumi has named its first three voice actors, unveiled a main visual and posted a new teaser on the ShoPro Anime Channel, the first footage in which the characters speak.
Yuma Uchida plays Hiroto Ikuta, the easygoing lead, a one-time aspiring actor from Yamagata who now makes his living at a fishing pond. Rikako Aikawa is Hanae Wada, the elderly lady he shares meals with and whose house he unexpectedly ends up owning, and Mayu Takahashi voices Natsumi Kobayashi, the 18-year-old cousin hoping to get into art school who moves in with him. Hiroto and Natsumi appear together in the new key art, set inside the house, joined by three more characters: Hideki, Akari and Yomogi.
Who's making it
Production +h. is animating; its earlier credits include The Orbital Children and Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction. Kei Suezawa directs and writes the scripts and series composition himself. Naoyuki Asano handles character design, Mika Nishimura is art director and Kaori Sawada writes the score. VIZ Media and Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions co-produce with the studio.
A prize-winning manga
Shinzo started the series in Weekly Big Comic Spirits in spring 2021, paused it in late 2023 to take the time he felt it needed, and brought it back at the start of 2024; ten books are out in Japan. This year it shared the general-category prize at the 71st Shogakukan Manga Award. Earlier honors include Best Serial Comic at Lucca Comics & Games 2024 and the top prize of TV Bros magazine's comic award. VIZ Media publishes the English edition, which began in May 2024.
It has already been adapted once: a live-action version aired in NHK's evening drama slot in late 2025 as twenty 15-minute episodes.
When it airs
The anime starts on NHK General TV in January 2027. The exact date has not been set, and international streaming plans are still to be announced.
