Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime slips from 2027 to 2028 as Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu join the cast
Crunchyroll's New York Comic Con showcase pushed the HAYATE-produced adaptation of Sucker Punch's samurai game back a year, while naming its first two voice actors and filling out the staff.
Sony's anime spin-off of Ghost of Tsushima will take a year longer than planned. At the Crunchyroll showcase during New York Comic Con on October 8, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends moved from its original 2027 slot to 2028. Neither report gives a month, a season or a reason for the change.
The same presentation named the first cast members, Mayumi Saco and Shinya Fukumatsu, without saying who they will voice. MyAnimeList lists Saco's anime credits as including Vinland Saga Season 2 and Fukumatsu's as Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill. According to Final Weapon, attendees in the room were shown a first look at the show, though no public trailer accompanied the news.
The staff list grew as well. Takanobu Mizuno, director of the Star Wars: Visions short "The Duel," leads the project at Kamikaze Douga. Gen Urobuchi (Psycho-Pass) of NITRO PLUS handles series composition, with Satoshi Maejima, also of NITRO PLUS, writing scripts. Takashi Okazaki is the character designer. New credits include Yoshikazu Iwanami as sound director, Yasumasa Koyama on sound effects and Keiji Inai on music; Inai also scored "The Duel." HAYATE, the studio venture formed by Aniplex and Crunchyroll, is producing in collaboration with PlayStation Productions, and MyAnimeList lists Crunchyroll, Aniplex, Sony Music and PlayStation Productions as the producing companies.
The anime takes its name from Legends, the online multiplayer mode of Sucker Punch Productions' open-world samurai game. Ghost of Tsushima came out on PlayStation 4 in July 2020, the Legends expansion followed that October, and the game later arrived on PlayStation 5 in August 2021 and on PC in May 2024. Its sequel, Ghost of Yotei, launched on PlayStation 5 in October 2025.
The anime itself was first announced in January 2025 with Crunchyroll as its streaming home and a 2027 target, which this week's update replaces.
