Black Clover Season 2 arrives October 3, more than five years after the first series ended
Studio Pierrot's return to Asta's story, directed again by Ayataka Tanemura, has shared a final pre-premiere visual; Crunchyroll streams it from October 3.
Five and a half years after its 170th episode, Asta is days away from being back on TV. Black Clover Season 2 premieres October 3, 2026, and a final pre-premiere visual has been released alongside a synopsis and preview stills for the opening episode.
The original series ran from October 2017 until March 2021, adapting Yuki Tabata's manga about Asta, a boy with no magic in a world where almost everyone has it, and Yuno, the fellow foundling he races to become the Wizard King. The franchise did not go quiet in between: the film Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King opened in June 2023 and streams on Netflix. The new season picks up as the war involving the Spade Kingdom and its Dark Triad escalates.
The road back
Crunchyroll first revealed the sequel at Anime Expo in July 2025 with a teaser. A trailer followed at Jump Festa '26 that December, and a second one, carrying the opening theme, was shown at Anime Expo in July 2026. North American audiences got an early look on September 21, when the season's first episode was one of five fall premieres screened in U.S. and Canadian theaters through the Crunchyroll Anime Nights Sneak Peek.
Staff and music
Ayataka Tanemura, director of the first series, returns to the chair at Studio Pierrot. Keiichiro Ochi oversees series composition, Itsuko Takeda designs the main characters with Kumiko Tokunaga on sub-characters, Kosei Takahashi handles props and Minako Seki composes. Rock band WANIMA performs the opening, "Kienai Riyuu" ("The Reason That Won't Disappear"), while One or Eight sings the ending, "Yellow Brick Road".
Where the manga stands
Tabata began the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2015, shifted it to Jump GIGA in August 2023, and closed it out on May 1 this year after eleven years. English readers can find it through VIZ Media, MANGA Plus and the Shonen Jump app.
