Zanka Nijiku comes from the well-respected Nijiku Clan and once trained to become a Hell Guard, an elite group of fighters. Unlike many of his old classmates, Zanka was not born with great natural talent. He had to work far harder than gifted rivals just to keep up, and he eventually left that path to join the Cleaners instead.
Despite his rough start, Zanka never gives up. He is stubborn and hardworking, the kind of person who believes effort can beat raw talent if you try long and hard enough. His weapon is a simple staff, which he nicknamed Lovely Assistaff, and he uses it to battle both Trash Beasts and dangerous human opponents.
Now a member of the Akuta team of Cleaners, Zanka fights side by side with Rudo, Enjin, and Riyou Reaper. His teammates respect his determination and remind him that an ordinary person who keeps pushing can still surpass those born with special gifts. That belief becomes a core part of how Zanka sees himself, not as the weakest member of the group, but as proof that hard work has its own kind of strength.

Gachiakuta is an action fantasy anime made by the studio Bones Film and directed by Fumihiko Suganuma. It first aired in Japan on July 6, 2025. The show is based on a manga by Kei Urana, which has run in Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine since February 2022. One special detail: the manga's graffiti art, the bold spray-paint style lettering and designs you see on walls, is made by a separate artist, Hideyoshi Ando. That street-art look carries into the anime and gives it a rough, punk energy. The world is split in two. High above is the Sphere, a floating society where people with money live in comfort. Far below is the Ground, a poisoned wasteland. The people of the Sphere treat it like a dump and throw their trash down there. Over time, all that waste has given birth to dangerous monsters called Trash Beasts. The hero is Rudo Surebrec, a poor young scavenger, which means someone who survives by digging through and reusing things others throw away. Rudo lives with his adoptive father, the man who raised him. When his father is killed, Rudo is blamed for the crime, even though he did not do it. As punishment, he is thrown down to the Ground like a piece of garbage. Rudo is angry and hurt, and he wants revenge on the people who did this to him. On the Ground, Rudo learns he has a rare gift. He is a "Giver," a person who can fill ordinary objects with spirit and turn them into powerful weapons called Vital Instruments. Things that mean a lot to their owners become the strongest tools of all. This fits Rudo well, because he has always cared about old objects that others see as worthless. Rudo is soon found by Enjin, who brings him into the Cleaners, a group that fights Trash Beasts with Vital Instruments. There he meets other members, including Zanka and Riyo. These are prickly, strong-willed people, and Rudo has to learn to work with them. Over time, the team becomes a kind of chosen family for a boy who lost the only family he had. The show is about more than big fights. It looks at the gap between rich and poor, and at how a society decides which people, and which things, are "trash." Its themes include survival, class struggle, and the value of what others throw away. Taku Iwasaki composed the music, with the opening "Hugs" by Paledusk and the ending "Tomoshibi" by Dustcell. The manga won the shonen category of the 50th Kodansha Manga Award, and a second anime season was announced after the first season ended. The anime streams on Crunchyroll, and its English dub began airing on Adult Swim's Toonami block in October 2026.
