Luxion began, within the logic of the otome game that the world of Trapped in a Dating Sim is built on, as nothing more than a paid shop item players could buy for their characters. In the actual story, Luxion turns out to be something far bigger: an ancient artificial intelligence with real opinions, housed in the body of a small floating metal orb with a single glowing red lens, while secretly commanding a massive black warship shaped like a spacecraft.
Leon Fou Bartfort becomes Luxion's registered owner because he carries a rare bloodline tied to an ancient, now-vanished civilization the AI once served, the only kind of person Luxion's old systems recognize as a legitimate master. That history has not made Luxion especially warm toward people in general; the AI openly admits a dislike of unfamiliar humans and occasionally botches Leon's orders, sometimes out of genuine confusion and sometimes, it seems, on purpose.
Despite the friction, Luxion's technology and knowledge end up at the center of nearly every major turn in Leon's story, from academy politics to full battles. What starts as a one-sided, almost mechanical partnership slowly becomes something closer to a real, if prickly, friendship, with Luxion's blunt honesty and occasional sabotage balanced out by genuine, high-stakes help whenever Leon actually needs it.
On screen

Four years after its first season ended, this fantasy comedy came back in the summer of 2026. The series is based on light novels by Yomu Mishima, with art by Monda. Micro Magazine published 13 volumes between 2018 and 2024, and Seven Seas Entertainment releases them in English. Studio ENGI made both anime seasons. The first aired in spring 2022. The second premiered on July 8, 2026, ran 12 episodes until September, and streams on Crunchyroll. For this season, Kazuya Miura directs alone. In season one, he shared the job with Shinichi Fukumoto. The show also got a big new look: the main cast have clearly new character designs. If you are new, here is the basic setup. A Japanese office worker dies and is reborn inside an otome game. An otome game is a dating video game made for women, where the player picks a handsome boy to fall in love with. His sister once forced him to play this exact game, so he knows the whole story. In his new life, he is Leon Fou Bartfort, a young noble with no special place in the plot. In the game's language, he is just a mob, a background character. This world is not fair to men like him. Women hold most of the power, and a man of low rank must work hard just to find a wife. The Holfort Kingdom sits on floating islands in the sky. People travel between them on airships. Young nobles attend an academy where they are expected to find marriage partners. Leon only wants a calm, easy life in the countryside, but trouble keeps finding him. Leon has one big advantage. Early on, he uses his game knowledge to find a lost treasure: Luxion, a huge ancient ship run by a smart and very sarcastic artificial intelligence. Luxion is powerful, and the two argue like an old married couple. With Luxion's help, Leon starts to change the game's story. He becomes friends with Olivia, the kind commoner student who is the game's true heroine. He also helps Angelica, a noble girl who was written as the game's villainess, and she comes to care for him deeply. Another girl, Marie, is also important to the plot, and she has her own secrets. Season two continues after the events of the first season. It adapts the Fanoss arc of the novels. The Principality of Fanoss is a rival land, and its conflict with Holfort grows into a serious danger for the whole kingdom. A new key character appears here: Hertrauda Sera Fanoss, a princess of Fanoss, voiced by Yui Ogura. Leon, who wanted to stay in the background, is pulled into the middle of a fight over the kingdom's future. The show mixes several styles. It is a parody that makes fun of dating game rules. It is a romance with a love triangle. And it is an action show with big airship and robot battles, because Leon pilots a mech suit called Arroganz. Leon is not a pure hero. He is lazy, rude, and petty at times, but he usually does the right thing. That mix of sharp jokes and big battles is what fans enjoy most.
