Kei Tsukishima joins Karasuno's volleyball team already looking unimpressed by the whole sport. Tall, sharp-tongued, and quick to make cutting remarks, he carries himself like someone who could not care less about winning, even though his analytical mind makes him one of the smartest blockers on the team, reading an opponent's attack almost instantly.
His closest friend is the gentler, more easygoing Tadashi Yamaguchi, who calls him "Tsukki" and is one of the only people who gets to see past his guarded attitude. Tsukishima frequently butts heads with teammates Tobio Kageyama and Shoyo Hinata, whose intense passion for volleyball clashes with his own detached style, though the friction between them pushes all three to improve. His older brother, Akiteru, used to play volleyball himself and quietly shapes how Tsukishima sees the sport, offering advice even after his own playing days end.
Over time, Tsukishima's cool exterior cracks just enough to reveal real investment in his team, even if he would never openly admit it. After high school, he continues playing competitively while attending college, joining a club team, a sign that the sport he once pretended not to care about ended up mattering to him more than he let on.

Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle is a 2024 anime film from Production I.G. It is the first of two movies, together called "Haikyu!! Final," that bring the volleyball story of Haikyu!! to its close. Susumu Mitsunaka, who directed the early TV seasons, both wrote and directed the film. It is based on the manga by Haruichi Furudate. Toho released it in Japan on February 16, 2024, and Crunchyroll brought it to theaters in North America at the end of May 2024. The film covers one game that fans had waited years to see. At the national high school tournament in Tokyo, Karasuno High School meets Nekoma High School in the third round. The two schools have been friends and rivals since the very first season. They have played many practice games, but never a real, official match. This time the result counts. If a team loses, there is no second chance, and its run at nationals is over. The rivalry has a fun backstory. Karasuno's team mascot is a crow, and Nekoma's is a cat. Long ago, when the coaches of the two schools were young, people gave the match-up a funny nickname: "the battle at the garbage dump," because crows and cats both like to dig through trash. The film's title comes from this old joke. Now a new group of players finally gets to carry on that old story. At the center of the game are two very different players. Shoyo Hinata of Karasuno is small, loud, and full of energy. He loves to jump and spike the ball, and he never seems to get tired. Kenma Kozume of Nekoma is Hinata's friend from another school. He is quiet, calm, and not very excited about sports. But he is a very smart setter, the player who sets up the ball for others to hit. Kenma studies the other team like a puzzle and looks for ways to stop them. Tetsuro Kuroo, Nekoma's tall and clever captain, leads a team that is famous for strong defense and for never letting the ball hit the floor. The movie is not only about who wins. It is also about why people play. Kenma does not usually care much about volleyball, and the film asks whether Hinata can make the game feel fun and exciting for him. Some parts are shown from a player's own point of view, so viewers feel like they are on the court. The music, the sound of the ball, and the cheering crowd all help make the long match feel tense and alive. The theme song is "Orange" by the rock band Spyair. The film was a huge hit. It earned about 11.6 billion yen in Japan, which made it the second-highest-earning Japanese film of 2024, and about 100 million US dollars around the world. Audiences in the United States gave it very strong scores, and it was nominated for Film of the Year at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Fans who have followed Karasuno since the first season will get the most out of it, since it builds on many years of story. It comes right after the To the Top seasons, and a second film, Haikyu!! vs. The Little Giant, is planned for 2027 to finish the Final story.
