Katsuya Serizawa

Katsuya Serizawa was once one of the most feared fighters in Claw, a secret organization of psychics, where his enormous power earned him a place among its elite inner circle and the personal role of bodyguard to its leader, Toichiro Suzuki. Before all that, though, Serizawa was simply a terrified young man who never left his room, afraid of his own uncontrollable powers and unsure how to live a normal life.

Toichiro gave him exactly what he needed to feel safe: purpose, structure, and an ordinary-looking umbrella that Serizawa learned to use as a focus for his abilities. In return, Serizawa gave Toichiro complete, unquestioning loyalty, treating him almost like a savior rather than simply a boss, which left Serizawa dependent and anxious whenever he had to act without clear instructions.

After Claw collapses, Serizawa ends up working for a very different kind of boss: Arataka Reigen, who runs a small spirit-consulting business alongside the extraordinarily powerful young esper Shigeo Kageyama. Away from Claw's rigid hierarchy, Serizawa slowly becomes more independent and more willing to think for himself, even as old habits of self-doubt occasionally resurface. He also develops a genuine protectiveness toward the people around him now, sometimes to the point of isolating himself if he worries his own power might put them in danger, a far cry from the isolated, fearful young man Toichiro first recruited.
