Kaede Kazama is a classmate of the story's hero, Yuya Tenjou, and a member of her school's track and field team, a background that makes her naturally drawn to anyone with real athletic talent. She first takes notice of Yuya after witnessing his unusually powerful physical abilities in action, a performance that catches her attention in a way an ordinary classmate never could.
Friendly and outgoing by nature, Kaede doesn't hide her growing interest in Yuya, though she approaches romance with a certain naive straightforwardness that makes her feelings pretty easy to read. Rather than playing games or hiding what she wants, she tends to say what's on her mind, a directness that sets her apart from some of the more guarded personalities elsewhere in the cast.
As a fellow student with a front-row view of Yuya's double life, hiding both his secret training and his otherworldly connections, Kaede represents the ordinary, ground-level side of his world: an admirer who likes him for his talent without knowing the stranger truth behind it. Her role in the story leans less on dramatic plot twists and more on grounding Yuya's high school life in something recognizably normal, even as the rest of his story spirals into far stranger territory.

This anime is based on a light novel series by the writer Miku, with art by Rein Kuwashima. A light novel is a kind of Japanese book for young readers, with a few pictures inside. The story first appeared online in 2017. Later the publisher Fujimi Shobo printed it as books, and Yen Press brought it to English readers. The TV anime was made by TMS Entertainment and the studio Millepensee, with Shingo Tanabe as director and Shin Itagaki as chief director and writer. It aired in spring 2023 and has 13 episodes. Its English name is I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too. The hero is Yuuya Tenjou, a heavy, shy middle school boy. Life is very hard for him. Other kids pick on him every day, and his own family does not care about him. The only person who was ever kind to him was his grandfather. When his grandfather dies, Yuuya gets the old family house. He moves in alone, sad and with nowhere else to go. Inside the house, Yuuya finds a door that leads to a different world called Argena. Stories like this are called isekai, which means "another world" in Japanese. Argena is a fantasy land with kingdoms, monsters, and guilds of adventurers. In this new place, Yuuya can fight, grow stronger, and gain levels like a character in a video game. He finds rare items and learns strong skills. As he levels up, his body changes too. He becomes tall, fit, and handsome. The fun twist is that Yuuya can walk back home through the same door. The power he earns in Argena stays with him in modern Japan. So the boy who was once picked on now returns to his normal life with new strength and confidence. He starts going to a fancy school called Ousei Academy. There he meets Kaori Houjou, a rich girl whose father runs the school. She is the first person he helps in Japan, and she becomes a close friend. In Argena, Yuuya saves Lexia Von Arselia, a princess of the kingdom of Arselia. Lexia quickly grows very fond of him. Around her is Luna, an assassin who was sent to kill the princess but later becomes her guard. Yuuya also gains animal friends, such as Night, a small black wolf pup. Trouble in the royal family, monsters, and demons keep him busy. As he goes back and forth between the two worlds, more and more people want his help. The show mixes action, sword fights, magic, and light romance. Several girls are interested in Yuuya, which is a common style called a harem story. At its heart, though, it is a story about a lonely boy who finally gets a second chance. Watching him turn his pain into kindness and courage is the main joy of the series. It is a simple, upbeat power fantasy for viewers who like seeing a hero rise from the bottom. The franchise kept going after this season, with a TV special and a second season both announced later.
