About
Null Meta is a TV anime planned for 2027, based on a comedy manga by the artist Kokamumo. The anime was announced by Aniplex on October 18, 2026. Studio Soigne is making it, with Kai Ikarashi as director. Tatsuya Takahashi is in charge of the series scripts, and Shin Ogasawara is designing the characters. The voice cast had not been named at the time of the announcement.
The manga has an unusual history. Kokamumo first posted it online in April 2018, on Tumblr and then on Pixiv, a popular Japanese art website. It became popular enough that the magazine Manga Time Kirara Max, published by Houbunsha, gave it a guest run in late 2019. Regular serialization began in March 2020. The series is a 4-koma manga, which means each joke is told in a short strip of four panels, a style common in Kirara magazines. By January 2026 it had reached six collected volumes.
The story is a light school comedy. Its star is Kurumi Uozumi, a second-year student at Rokkaku High School. Kurumi looks and acts a lot like a human girl, but she is really an advanced android, a robot built to look like a person. Her official name is NULLOID:01 "KURUMI." She was created by the father of her classmate Chiaki Soen. Kurumi is not very smart, and much of the fun comes from how she gets things wrong.
Chiaki lives with Kurumi and acts as her guardian. Chiaki does not get along with her father, but she is very good with technology. She keeps building new features for Kurumi, often to make her seem more human. These upgrades rarely work the way anyone expects, and Chiaki herself is a little strange. Two more friends complete the group. Sakina Agoshi is Chiaki's childhood friend and next-door neighbor. She is lazy, calm, and loves to read, and she laughs easily at the chaos around her. Shiyuki Takada, whom her friends call "Yuki," is the straight man of the group. In Japanese comedy, the straight man is the one who stays normal and points out how silly everyone else is being.
Null Meta does not have a big plot or a serious conflict. It is a slice-of-life comedy, a genre that shows calm, everyday moments instead of action or drama. Most chapters are simply the four girls hanging out at school or at home, chatting, and reacting to Kurumi's odd behavior and Chiaki's newest experiments. The humor is quick, playful, and often a bit random.
Fans of other Kirara titles, which are known for gentle stories about groups of friends, will likely find the same cozy feeling here, with a robot twist. The anime should bring Kurumi and her friends to life with color, voices, and movement, and give new viewers an easy way to enjoy a series that started as a small web comic.
