Magic Knight Rayearth (2026)

Magic Knight Rayearth (2026) is a brand-new anime version of a classic series by the famous manga group CLAMP. The original manga ran from 1993 to 1996, and the first anime aired in 1994. This new version was first announced in July 2024 to celebrate the franchise's 30th anniversary. It premieres on October 7, 2026, and streams on Crunchyroll. E&H Production is making it, and Yui Miura directs, in a first job as series director. Shigeru Murakoshi writes the scripts, and Satomi Watabe designs the characters. The music is by a team that includes Yuki Kajiura, who is known for Madoka Magica and Demon Slayer.

The story is about three 14-year-old girls from Tokyo. Hikaru Shidou is brave, cheerful, and a little tomboyish. Umi Ryuuzaki is proud, stylish, and from a rich family. Fuu Hououji is calm, polite, and very smart. They go to different schools and have never met. By chance, they are all at Tokyo Tower on the same day during school trips. Suddenly, a bright light appears, and they hear a voice calling for help.

The three girls are pulled into another world called Cephiro. It is a land of magic where the strength of a person's will shapes the world itself. Cephiro is protected by Princess Emeraude, who is known as the "Pillar." Her prayers keep the land peaceful. But the princess has been taken away, and Cephiro is falling into danger. Before she was captured, Emeraude called out for the legendary Magic Knights, and the three girls from Tokyo are the ones who answered.

Now Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu must learn magic, find special weapons and armor, and awaken giant guardian beings that help them fight. Only by saving the princess can they return home. At first, the three do not know each other at all, and they are very different. Along the way, they become close friends, and that friendship becomes their greatest strength.

Rayearth is famous for mixing several genres: an isekai (a story where people travel to another world), a magical girl story, and a giant robot story. It was one of the most loved anime of the 1990s, and many fans remember it for its colorful world and emotional story. The new version stars Ayane Sakura as Hikaru, Rumiko Okubo as Umi, and Rie Takahashi as Fuu.
