Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 is the new anime set in the world of the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. The game company CD Projekt Red confirmed it in July 2025. Studio Trigger, which made the first Edgerunners in 2022, is animating it again. It is a 10-episode series made for streaming, and it arrives on Netflix on October 20, 2026. Kai Ikarashi directs it. This is his first time as series director. He directed the much-praised sixth episode of the first show. The writers are Bartosz Sztybor and Masahiko Otsuka, who also wrote the first series, and Ichigo Kanno designs the characters.

It is important to know that this is not a direct "season 2." The makers call it something completely different. It tells a new, stand-alone story with new main characters. You do not need to have seen the first series to follow it, although fans will know the world.

The story takes place in Night City. It is a huge, rich, and very dangerous city on the west coast of a future America. The people there change their bodies with machines and electronic parts, called cyberware or "chrome." Gangs fight in the streets, and giant companies, called corporations or "corpos," hold most of the power. In this city, an "edgerunner" is a mercenary, a person who does risky illegal jobs for money.

One lead is Weak Kingsley. He was once a famous edgerunner, but those days are long gone. Now he must live without his old cyberware and without his old fame. He is looking for a reason to keep going in a city that has forgotten him. Another lead is D, a nomad from outside the city. He is a skilled netrunner, a hacker who fights inside computer networks. His clan was destroyed, and he wants revenge. His hunt leads him close to company secrets that were meant to stay buried. Other new faces include Roman Carax, a movie lover who records the real stories of Night City, and Talia Yang, a young woman tied to the Maelstrom gang.

The official description says the show is about family, obsession, and legacy. It also asks a strong question: in a world that only cares about big shows and flashy images, how far must you go for your own story to matter? Like the first series, it is likely to be bright, violent, and emotional. It is made for older viewers, with gore and crime.

The first Edgerunners was a big hit around the world and brought many new players to the game. Expectations for this new story are high.
