Toratsugumi: Tsugumi Project casts its first three voices, with Masaaki Mizunaka as death-row soldier Leone
The TV anime of ippatu's post-apocalyptic manga revealed Mizunaka, Misaki Watada and Haruki Ishiya as Leone, Tsugumi and Dudu on October 19, alongside a first voice-comic video. Its studio, staff and premiere date are still unannounced.
Three months after its TV anime was announced in July, Toratsugumi: Tsugumi Project has its first voices. The anime's official X account named the first cast members on October 19:
- Masaaki Mizunaka as Leone, the hero, a former soldier sitting on death row
- Misaki Watada as Tsugumi, a creature who looks cute but has abnormal strength
- Haruki Ishiya as Dudu, an ex-champion of underground fights who travels with Leone
MyAnimeList points to How Not to Summon a Demon Lord for Mizunaka, Uma Musume: Pretty Derby for Watada, and Sound! Euphonium for Ishiya as their earlier work.
The cast arrived with the first in a series of voice-comic videos, which pair the manga's panels with the actors' performances. This one has Leone and Dudu meeting aboard a plane bound for the old Japan, and more installments are planned. Over on X, a giveaway is offering a not-for-sale acrylic panel signed by all three actors.
The premise is grim. Far in the future, the land once called Japan is a radioactive wasteland full of monsters and considered unfit for human life. Leone was convicted of a crime he did not commit and torn away from his wife and child. On death row, he is offered a classified mission inside that forbidden zone, where he meets Tsugumi.
The manga has an unusual history. Its creator, ippatu, first published it in France through Ki-oon in 2019. Kodansha then serialized it in Weekly Young Magazine from January 2021 to September 2023, and the seventh and final Japanese volume came out that November. Kodansha USA licensed it in English in July 2022 and put out the last English volume in 2025.
The production has not yet named its studio, staff, broadcaster or premiere window.
