The Remarried Empress becomes a 2027 TROYCA anime, with Yoko Hikasa as Navier and Berserk of Gluttony's Tetsuya Yanagisawa directing

Crunchyroll used its New York Comic Con showcase to reveal a TV anime of the Korean webtoon about an empress who answers her husband's betrayal by asking for a second marriage. It will stream on Crunchyroll in 2027.

An empress learns that the emperor intends to put his mistress in her place, so she ends the marriage herself and goes looking for a crown somewhere else. That is the setup of The Remarried Empress, the Korean romance-fantasy webtoon that is now on its way to television as a Japanese anime. Crunchyroll revealed the project on October 8 during its showcase at New York Comic Con 2026, giving it a 2027 premiere.

A HAYATE production animated by TROYCA

The series is one of the first titles from a new co-production arrangement between HAYATE (the studio venture that Aniplex and Crunchyroll set up together), LINE Digital Frontier, which is part of WEBTOON Entertainment, and Crunchyroll itself. Final Weapon reports that the partners plan to develop roughly 15 anime from webtoons under the deal. HAYATE leads production, and TROYCA is handling the animation.

Tetsuya Yanagisawa is the director. He also directed the 2023 TV anime Berserk of Gluttony, and he is credited as chief director on that show's second season, which got its own teaser at the same convention. Akiko Inoue writes the series composition and scripts, Jun Nakai adapts the characters, and Yuki Fukazawa is scoring it.

Four leads cast

Yoko Hikasa plays Navier, the empress of the Eastern Empire at the center of the story. Tomoaki Maeno is her husband, Emperor Sovieshu; Ryohei Kimura is Heinrey, the Western Empire prince she remarries; and Reina Ueda plays Rashta, the woman Sovieshu brings into the palace. The official website (saikon-anime.com) opened with character visuals for all four, and a teaser went up after the panel. The Japanese title is Saikon Shounin wo Youkyuu Shimasu.

From web novel to webtoon to screen

The property began as a web novel by Alphatart. The webtoon version, drawn by HereLee and SUMPUL, runs on LINE Manga in Japan and on WEBTOON in English. MyAnimeList counts 251 chapters in the comic, which wrapped up in January after a seven-year run; Anime.com reports that it is coming back this fall with side stories. The anime is also not the first screen adaptation in the works: MyAnimeList notes that a live-action series is airing on Disney+.

Where to watch

Crunchyroll will stream the anime, exclusively in certain territories according to Final Weapon. No specific premiere date, Japanese broadcast schedule or list of streaming regions has been announced yet. The same panel also announced an anime of the boxing webtoon The Boxer.
