The Moon on a Rainy Night names Sora Amamiya and Iori Saeki as its leads in a first full PV
CompTown's 2027 TV anime of Kuzushiro's girls' love drama about a hard-of-hearing girl and the classmate who reaches out to her has cast its two heroines and filled out its production staff.
Kanon Oikawa will speak with the voice of Sora Amamiya, and Saki Kindaichi with that of Iori Saeki. The pairing arrived on Wednesday, October 7, alongside the first proper promotional video for The Moon on a Rainy Night (Amayo no Tsuki), the TV anime based on Kuzushiro's manga. The series is still dated only to 2027; no month, broadcaster or streaming partner has been named.
Two girls, one rainy evening
The premise is quiet. On the eve of high school, Saki is hurrying to piano lessons when she collides with a striking long-haired girl in the rain. The next morning that same girl is sitting beside her in class. Kanon is very hard of hearing, reads lips when she can, and holds the people around her at arm's length. Saki, bothered by how others treat her new classmate, keeps trying anyway, and the manga follows the slow change in both of them as something closer than friendship takes shape.
In MyAnimeList's notes, Amamiya's listed credit is Nijusseiki Denki Mokuroku, while Saeki's is Pon no Michi.
The people behind it
Tomoe Makino directs at CompTown. Her earlier work includes Aharen-san wa Hakarenai, A Tale of the Secret Saint and Woodpecker Detective's Office. Shogo Yasukawa, whose writing credits run from Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma to Rock is a Lady's Modesty, is in charge of series composition and the scripts, and the band jizue is scoring the show.
The new video also brought a longer crew list. Tsutomu Tomoyuki and Seung-deok Kim are assistant directors. Haruko Nobori handles color design, Mai Ichioka is art director, Atsushi Sato is director of photography, Masahiro Goto edits, and Nobuyuki Abe is the sound director. CompTown's Masao Yamamura, previously animation producer on Migi & Dali, takes the same post here.
Where the manga stands
Kuzushiro has been running the series on Kodansha's Comic Days web platform since June 2021. The 12th collected volume came out in Japan on June 19. Kodansha USA picked up the English rights in 2022 and has eight volumes out, with a ninth set for December 8.
The anime itself was first announced in November 2024, and Remow is handling its international licensing. The premiere month remains the next piece of information to come.
