Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 is up for an International Emmy in the Short-Form Series race
The eight-story anthology of Fujimoto's early one-shots is one of four nominees in its category at the 54th International Emmy Awards, with winners named in New York on November 23.
Long before Chainsaw Man turned him into a global name, Tatsuki Fujimoto was a teenager, and then a twentysomething, turning out self-contained comics. Brought to the screen, those early pieces are now in contention for an International Emmy.
On September 23, the organization that runs the International Emmys published this year's shortlists, and the eight-part Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 landed among the contenders for Short-Form Series, with Avex Pictures credited on the entry. Three rivals share that race with it: De Klas van 2000 from Belgium, Jornada da Vida: Rio Mekong from Brazil, and Canada's Peoplewatching, in its third season. Overall, 64 contenders made the cut across 16 races, from 22 nations.
One author, many hands
The numbers in the title mark the span of Fujimoto's life during which he drew the one-off tales it adapts, from 17 up to 26. Instead of assigning the whole package to a single crew, the producers divided it up: six animation houses and seven directors each took one tale, so every installment stands on its own.
The mood shifts sharply from piece to piece. The opener follows two kids hiding among chickens once aliens have seized control; Sasaki Stopped a Bullet centers on a schoolboy's reckless gamble. Love Is Blind treats a confession as sci-fi comedy, Shikaku matches a killer-for-hire with an age-old vampire, and Mermaid Rhapsody builds a friendship around a piano on the seabed. Woke-Up-as-a-Girl Syndrome, Nayuta of the Prophecy and Sister's Sister, about two siblings who make art, round things off.
Theaters first
Japanese cinemas got it before anyone else, through a limited two-part release from October 17, 2025, and Prime Video then carried it globally that November. AniList lists it as an eight-episode title from 2025.
The honor covers the collection in its entirety rather than one installment or one performer. Contenders meet in Manhattan for the Academy's World Television Festival over November 20-22, and the winners are revealed at the 54th gala there on Monday, November 23, 2026.
