SSS-Class Revival Hunter casts Toshiki Masuda as the Flame Emperor and taps THE SPELLBOUND x BOOM BOOM SATELLITES for its ending
A second PV for STUDIO fu's January 2027 adaptation of the Korean revenge-fantasy webtoon fills out the S-rank Hunters around Kim Gongja and confirms a Fuji TV +Ultra slot.
The man whose scandal gets Kim Gongja killed now has a voice. The official site for SSS-Class Revival Hunter (Shishite Ikiru SSS-kyuu Hunter) posted its second PV over the weekend and named Toshiki Masuda, whose past roles include Attack on Titan: The Final Season, as the Flame Emperor, the man at the center of the story's inciting murder.
Masuda heads a batch of eight new cast members, most of them playing the elite fighters who populate Gongja's world:
- Megumi Han as the Black Witch
- Sayaka Kinoshita as the Paladin
- Risa Shimizu as the Countess
- Makoto Furukawa as Viper
- Natsumi Fujiwara as the Inquisitor
- Yuka Iguchi as the Master Alchemist
- Shunsuke Sakuya as the Sword Saint
They join Takeo Otsuka and Satoshi Hino, who were announced in September as the hero and his spectral mentor.
The same update settled the closing song. It pairs THE SPELLBOUND, heard on the fourth season of Golden Kamuy, with BOOM BOOM SATELLITES, whose anime work includes Kiznaiver. The site also confirms a January 2027 broadcast inside Fuji TV's +Ultra programming block. Overseas, Crunchyroll has it for the Americas, Europe, Africa, Oceania and parts of Asia.
For newcomers, the hook is a single loophole. Gongja is the weakest grade of Hunter, and his one talent is copying another person's power on his own death. That ability lands him a time loop: murdered after stumbling onto a secret about the Flame Emperor, he wakes a full day earlier every time he dies, and decides to get even. Riding along with him is the ghost of a legendary swordsman, the Sword Emperor, who becomes his teacher.
Hiroaki Sakurai, whose credits include The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. and Machikado Mazoku, directs at STUDIO fu. Sayuri Oba (Romantic Killer) writes the scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu, the character designer of the 2011 Hunter x Hunter, is handling the principal designs. When the project was unveiled, Oba called the original "a popular Korean work that excels at roller coaster-style dramatic developments."
The property began as a Korean web novel by Sinnoa before becoming a webtoon with art by Bill K, which has run on Naver Webtoon since December 2020. Tapas has carried it in English since March 2021, and Yen Press picked up the print edition in October 2024; its fifth English volume is due December 8.
