Nue's Exorcist gets a summer 2027 TV anime on TV Asahi, with Studio Hibari animating and Hiroshi Seko on scripts
The Weekly Shonen Jump series that won AnimeJapan 2025's most-wanted-adaptation poll was confirmed for TV during the sixth Jump Press stream on October 12, with Kaito Miura and Saori Onishi leading the cast and a first teaser out.

A timid boy who sees ghosts, a forgotten classroom, and a game-obsessed yokai who has been waiting in it for years: Kota Kawae's Nue's Exorcist (Nue no Onmyouji) is heading to television. The adaptation was revealed on October 12 during the sixth Jump Press livestream and is slated for summer 2027 on TV Asahi and its affiliate stations. A teaser video and teaser visual came out with the news.
A long-requested adaptation
Few current Jump manga arrived at this point with as much demand behind them. In March 2025 the series topped AnimeJapan's annual reader vote for the manga people most want animated, a poll that drew more than 156,000 ballots across its nominees. In 2024 it had already placed seventh among print titles at the Next Manga Awards and 11th on the Nationwide Bookstore Employees' Recommended Comics list.
Kawae launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2023. Volume 16 came out on September 4 with a 17th due November 4, and MyAnimeList puts circulation at about 1.6 million copies. English readers get chapters simultaneously through Manga Plus, while Viz Media handles the digital and print editions.
The story
Gakuro Yajima has perceived the creatures called genyou since he was small, and losing his father to one taught him to keep his head down. In his first year of high school he stumbles on a concealed room with signs of an occupant. The resident turns out to be Nue, a genyou with a soft spot for video games. When Gakuro is nearly killed, he binds himself to her: she lends him power, and in exchange he takes up the work of a modern onmyouji, purging hostile spirits from the school while dealing with local exorcists who want nothing to do with her.
Cast and crew
Kaito Miura, the lead of Tougen Anki, voices Gakuro, and Saori Onishi, known from Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, plays Nue. Sayumi Suzushiro joins them as Kazusa Suo.
Behind the camera, Hiroyuki Hashimoto, whose earlier work includes Classroom of the Elite and Is the Order a Rabbit?, directs for Studio Hibari. Hiroshi Seko, the series composer on Jujutsu Kaisen, is shaping the scripts. Shunpei Mochizuki (Sakugan) adapts Kawae's designs, MONACA (NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) scores it, and Takayuki Yamaguchi is sound director.
No exact premiere date, episode count or overseas streaming partner has been named; for now the confirmed window is summer 2027.
