Hayato Kazami is heading back to the circuit. On October 19, Sunrise put the main trailer for the Future GPX Cyber Formula theatrical double bill on its official YouTube channel, timed to the four-month countdown before the program reaches cinemas across Japan on Friday, February 19, 2027.

Two works share the screen under the franchise's 35th-anniversary banner. The new one is Future GPX Cyber Formula ASURADA, a short of roughly six minutes that continues straight on from Future GPX Cyber Formula SIN, the OVA series that started in December 1998. Paired with it is the EARLYDAYS RENEWAL MOVIE EDITION, an HD remaster of the two-part recap of the TV series first released in 1996.

Familiar hands on the new short

Mitsuo Fukuda is back to direct ASURADA and also wrote it. Hirokazu Hisayuki returns as character designer, and Shoji Kawamori, the franchise's machine designer, has drawn the cars again; Satoshi Shigeta is chief mechanical animation director. Sunrise is producing, with Bandai Namco Filmworks distributing.

The returning voice cast includes Junichi Kanemaru as Hayato, Kotono Mitsuishi as Asuka Kazami, Toshihiko Seki as Bleed Kaga, Yuri Amano as Kyoko Aoi and Shuichi Ikeda as Kyoshiro Nagumo.

When the double bill was first announced on September 26, the official site unveiled a theatrical key visual newly drawn by Hisayuki and Shigeta, plus two machines: the brand-new Zenith Asurada AKF-S0/G, a Kawamori design, and a first look at Ho-Oga AA-1.

From 1991 to now

The TV anime began in March 1991 and ran 37 episodes. Sunrise then carried the story through a run of OVAs — 11 in 1992, ZERO in 1994, SAGA in 1996 and finally SIN — which is the point ASURADA resumes from.

Tickets and the anniversary calendar

Mubichike advance tickets have been on sale since September 26 at 1,900 yen, including an Animate edition bundled with merchandise. Before the films open, the franchise's 35th-anniversary festival, subtitled Eiko no Winners, is set for Saturday, January 9, 2027.
