From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman greenlights Season 3
Beryl Gardenant's story continues: a third season was confirmed right after the Season 2 finale on September 23, with a new village-set visual and a message from lead Hiroaki Hirata.
The artwork picked for the reveal says a lot: Beryl Gardenant on an unhurried walk through Bidden Village, back among the fields where his tale began. It came with confirmation from NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan that From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman is getting a third season, news timed to drop immediately after the second season's twelfth episode aired on September 23. Lead actor Hiroaki Hirata also recorded a video thanking viewers.
Season 2 debuted July 8, a little over a year after the spring 2025 first season, going out in Japan through TV Asahi's IMAnimation W slot while Amazon Prime Video carried it globally. Akio Kazumi directed, splitting animation between Passione and Hayabusa Film, with Kunihiko Okada writing and Yasuharu Takanashi scoring. Nobody has said whether that lineup stays for the next installment, and there is still no word on timing or length.
Beryl thinks of himself as a plain countryside swordsmanship teacher, yet pupils from his tiny dojo went on to become famed knights and adventurers. One of them, Allucia Citrus, brings him to the capital and installs him as an instructor for the Liberion Order. Shigeru Sagazaki first posted the story on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in late 2020; Square Enix now publishes the novels with Tetsuhiro Nabeshima's illustrations, and the franchise counts more than 11 million copies.
