Chiikawa pauses new episodes until January 2027, filling the gap with 25 revival broadcasts
From October 2 the Chiikawa anime switches to reruns of popular episodes and story arcs on Mezamashi TV through December 25, with new episodes due back in January.
Episode 381 is the last new Chiikawa viewers will get for a while. The anime of Nagano's manga halts fresh material from October 2, and its official X account says original episodes are slated to resume in January 2027.
The slot won't go dark. Fuji TV's morning program Mezamashi TV, where the short-form series normally runs every Tuesday and Friday, is scheduling 25 "revival" airings between October 2 and Christmas Day. Things kick off that Friday with episode 6, "Friends / Dorayaki," from early in the show's run.
Starting the week of October 6 the reruns rotate through multi-part story arcs, one per week, beginning with the three-part "Nantoka Bania" storyline: episode 21 is up on October 6 and episode 22 on October 9. Broadcast TV only shows the first chapters of each arc. The full arc then goes online every Friday as one continuous video, viewable for seven days on FOD, TVer and Mezamashi TV's YouTube channel, which means episodes 21 to 23 land online together on October 9. The picks are meant both for newcomers who discovered the characters through the movies and for longtime viewers wanting a rewatch.
Doga Kobo animates the series, which launched in April 2022 around the trio of Chiikawa, Hachiware and Usagi. Its latest theatrical outing, Chiikawa: Ningyo no Shima no Himitsu, opened in Japan in July 2026. Overseas, Netflix offers the anime in 25 territories, the majority in Latin America, while ADN serves viewers in France and Germany.
