Because I, the True Saint, Was Banished, That Country Is Done For! premieres January 2027, with Kanako Hara on music
Bandai Namco Filmworks' first teaser has Eliane recapping her own exile and introduces Nigel, the prince from next door, while confirming a January 2027 debut for the Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab series.
The heroine does the storytelling herself in the first teaser for Because I, the True Saint, Was Banished, That Country Is Done For! Uploaded by Bandai Namco Filmworks on Saturday, October 3, the clip lets Eliane walk viewers through everything that has gone wrong for her so far, solo, before cutting to the moment she crosses paths with Nigel, royalty from across the border. Along the way it offers an early sample of the score's lighter, playful pieces, and it pins the debut down to January 2027.
Those pieces come from Kanako Hara, revealed on the official website as composer at the same time. Which channel will carry the show, and on what day it starts, remain open questions.
For newcomers, the setup is a reversal of fortune. Eliane is Belkheim's holy maiden and Claude's intended bride, at least until he takes a liking to someone named Leticia, breaks things off and throws her out. Worn down by his cruelty and cheating, she heads for Linchigham hoping for a fresh start, and on the road meets Nigel, the heir to that throne, who wastes little time growing fond of her. Meanwhile, the homeland that discarded its protector discovers how much it relied on her.
Masumi Tazawa leads as Eliane opposite Taku Yashiro's Nigel. Behind the scenes, Tsukasa Sakurai holds the director's chair at Tsumugi Akita Animation Lab, Naoki Tozuka is shaping the scripts, and Naru Nishikori adapts the character art. The project went public on July 23 this year.
The tale started life online: Shikiso Utsuzawa posted it to Shōsetsuka ni Narō beginning in mid-2020, and Kodansha turned it into a printed series the following February, with art by Pukyunosuke and seven books out by the end of 2024. A comic version drawn by Mokuba Matsu has run since spring 2021, now hosted by Palcy and Artemis by Sirius, and totaled 13 collected books by this past July. English readers can find that comic from Kodansha USA, digitally via K MANGA since early 2024 and in print through Kodansha Print Club since the end of March.
