Soun Tendou

This is the third season of the new Ranma 1/2 anime from studio MAPPA. It premieres in Japan on October 3, 2026, on Nippon TV and partner stations, and it streams worldwide on Netflix right after each broadcast. MAPPA revealed the date at a fan event in July 2026, along with new voice cast members, including Masako Nozawa, the famous voice of Goku, as the Grand Master, Jun Fukuyama as Sentaro Daimonji, and Minami Tanaka as Tsubasa Kurenai. Saori Hayami and Mayumi Tanaka are also joining. Ranma 1/2 is one of the most loved manga by Rumiko Takahashi, who also created Urusei Yatsura and Inuyasha. The original manga ran from 1987 to 1996, and a classic anime followed in 1989. This remake started in 2024 and has the original voice actors returning in the main roles, with modern, sharp animation. The story's central idea is a strange curse. Ranma Saotome is a teenage martial artist who trained in China with his father, Genma. While there, they both fell into cursed springs at a training ground called Jusenkyo. Now, when Ranma is splashed with cold water, he turns into a girl. Hot water turns him back into a boy. His father has it worse: cold water turns him into a giant panda. Back in Japan, Ranma learns that his father arranged for him to marry one of the three daughters of Soun Tendo, an old friend who runs a martial arts school, or dojo. The one chosen is Akane Tendo, a strong, short-tempered girl who says she hates boys. Ranma and Akane argue all the time, but they slowly start to care for each other, even if neither will admit it. Their lives are made much harder by a long list of rivals, suitors, and troublemakers. Many of them have their own curses or silly fighting styles, and they are always showing up to challenge Ranma or chase after Akane. The series is famous for its slapstick comedy, over-the-top martial arts battles, and crazy romantic mix-ups. It was also one of the early anime to play with gender in a light-hearted way, which made it a big hit around the world in the 1990s.
