Sirotan is a cute character from Japan who has been popular for more than twenty-five years. He was created by the company Creative Yoko on August 8, 1999, and designed by artist Ema Yamada. Sirotan is a baby harp seal with soft white fur. His name is a baby-talk way of saying "little white one" in Japanese. One of his best-known habits is dressing up. Sirotan often appears in costumes that make him look like other cute animals or even objects, which is part of his charm. He loves to nap and to swim, and his favorite foods are fish, ice cream, and milk. In Japan, he has his own shops, starting with one at Haneda Airport in Tokyo in 2016 and now in cities such as Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Since 2019, August 8 has been officially known as "Sirotan Day." This short TV anime was announced in March 2026. It is made by the studio Lesprit and directed by Arisa Okada, with scripts by Sei Yoshitsuki and music by Shota Kowashi. TV Asahi and Shin-Ei Animation produce it. It started on October 3, 2026, as part of TV Asahi's new block of short cartoons called PicoAni, which airs on Saturday afternoons. Aoi Yuki, a very well-known voice actress, plays Sirotan. His friends include Rakkoinu, voiced by Miyu Hanasaki, Sheru, voiced by Rina Hidaka, and Ramune, voiced by Riyo Iwai. The show is made to be gentle and sweet, and it is suitable for small children as well as adult fans of the character. If you like soft, cute animals and short, happy cartoons, Sirotan is an easy and relaxing watch.
