Shou Izuta

Delta to Gamma no Rigakubu Note, which can be translated as The Science Notes of Delta and Gamma, is a school mystery story where the answers come from science instead of magic. It began as a light novel, a kind of short Japanese novel with anime-style pictures. Takuma Sakai writes it and Asagi Tousaka draws the pictures. The first book came out on November 8, 2024, under Dengeki Bunko, a popular light novel label from ASCII Media Works, and there were four books by October 2026. The series quickly found readers. In the 2026 edition of Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!, a yearly guide that ranks the best light novels, it placed sixth among all paperback books and third among new paperback series. A manga version drawn by Lap Tsutsumi started in April 2026 in the magazine Comic Dengeki Daioh "g". Then, on October 3, 2026, an anime adaptation was announced during an online event called the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026. More details, such as the studio and the start date, had not been shared at the time of the announcement. The story takes place at Tsuna Nagai High School, a school known for its strong focus on the sciences. The main character is Shou Izuta, a first-year student who goes by the nickname "Delta." Shou is shy and keeps to himself, and he loves biology, the science of living things. His life starts to change when he teams up with a classmate named Rio Iwama. Rio is smart and well liked, and she loves to use science to solve puzzles. Their first case is about a school legend. People say that two cherry blossom trees on the grounds sometimes form the shape of a heart, and that anyone who sees this heart will become a couple. But lately, nobody has seen it happen. Shou and Rio decide to find out why. They do not trust rumors or luck. Instead, they watch closely, form ideas, and test them, just like real scientists. This first mystery leads to other strange events around the school, which they look into together with members of the Biology Club. A few other students join them along the way. Ryuichi Mizusaki is Shou's friend from elementary school, who loves chemistry and used to be in the Chemistry Club with him. Rei Kannabi is a cool and calm student who looks a bit like a boy and enjoys the Japanese language. Aya Mikage is quiet and very good at math. Each of them brings a different subject and a different way of thinking to the group. The series mixes mystery, romance, and slice of life, which means stories about everyday moments. Part of its charm is that the mysteries are small and close to daily school life, so the science feels easy to follow and fun to learn. At the same time, working side by side with Rio helps Shou grow more confident, and their partnership slowly brings a gentle romantic feeling to the story.
