DARK MACHINE: The Animation is an original TV anime that premieres in Japan in mid-October 2026 on Fuji TV and partner stations, and streams worldwide on Crunchyroll. It is one part of a bigger cross-media project called Dark Machine. Cross-media means the same story is told through several kinds of media at once. Here, that includes a video game, this anime, and a manga. The game also has Web3 features, such as blockchain technology, a cryptocurrency, and an NFT market, but players do not need to use these to play. The game and the anime tell connected parts of the same story. The anime is made by the studio Production +h. and directed by Kazumi Terada. Goro Taniguchi, known as the director of Code Geass and One Piece Film: Red, produces the game and serves as creative producer. Hidetaka Tenjin designs the mecha, the giant fighting robots that the story is built around. Character designs are by Ko Yoshinari and Akira Mitani. The story takes place in Golden Valley, a special economic zone in Japan. An economic zone is an area with its own business rules. Golden Valley uses Dark Machine, a hugely popular esports game, to power the local economy. Esports means video games played as a competitive sport, often in front of big crowds. In this world, playing Dark Machine is not just a hobby. It is a way to make money and become famous. The main character is Kairi, voiced by Kensho Ono. His grandfather has died, and the old man left a strange final wish: he told Kairi to look for something called the Senki. Kairi travels to Golden Valley to follow that wish. There he meets Rudra, a mysterious girl voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro. Rudra is being chased by a group led by Ajima, the top player in Dark Machine, voiced by Yuichi Nakamura. After this meeting, Kairi is pulled into the game and its robot battles. He had not planned to become a player, but battle after battle, he discovers that he has real talent and aims to rise to the top. Koki Uchiyama also joins the cast as a character named Shinn. The series mixes mecha action with science fiction and a gaming story. Much of the robot action is made with CGI, meaning computer-made 3D animation. The show leans toward the "super robot" style, where the machines are big, powerful, and dramatic, rather than plain military vehicles. With an experienced robot anime team behind it, Dark Machine is a fit for viewers who enjoy giant robot fights, competitive games, and a mystery about a family secret.
