Originally the daughter of the House of Gugrekass—a border-ruling noble family renowned for martial prowess—she was branded a "family disgrace" and banished with nothing but the clothes on her back after manifesting a "dud skill" during the appraisal ceremony; consequently, she adopted "Hermit"—her late mother's maiden name—as her own (a change reflected even in her status screen).

Although she had undergone magic training and could barely cast basic spells, she lacked a staff to amplify her magical power and had no practical combat experience; as a result, she was unable to inflict damage even on an Ipul Slime, a monster considered the weakest of them all.

However, upon discovering the true power and utility of her dud skill, she inadvertently rose to become the world's strongest witch.

The World's Strongest Witch is a fantasy comedy anime that premieres on October 7, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other channels. The studio Bridge works on it together with Aisle, and Joji Furuta directs. Crunchyroll streams the series. The story first appeared as a web novel by Mochimaru Sakaki in 2022. Square Enix later published it as a light novel, with art by Riritto. There is also a popular manga version drawn by Tamaki Toga, which runs in Kodansha's Monthly Magazine Base. This anime follows a familiar fantasy idea and has fun with it. In this world, people receive a special skill, and that skill decides a lot about their future. The heroine, Lorna Hermit (her name is also written as Rona), is born into a noble family. When her skill appears, it has the very highest rank, SSS. But it is called Internet, and nobody around her knows what that means. Her family thinks it is worthless. They see her as a shame and throw her out of the house. Lorna soon learns that the skill is not useless at all. Internet lets her look up knowledge from our world, Earth. With it, she can find smart ways to solve problems, gather rare items, and get powerful gear. A skill that seemed like a joke turns her into one of the most dangerous people around. The story enjoys poking fun at this. Much of the comedy comes from how strange and modern her ideas look to the people of a magic world. The funny part is that Lorna does not really want fame. She would like a quiet life. In this stage of the story, she has already dealt with her old family and is free to travel. She heads to Aquas, a town by the sea, looking forward to sightseeing and good fresh fish. But the town is in danger. A strange event called a Weekly Quest is pushing it toward ruin, and Lorna gets pulled in to help. The world is full of adventurers, guilds, elves, and monsters. Lorna meets a colorful group of people. They include Elmina Manaflame, a guild master; Erna, a young elf; and Reinhardt Highwind, a former gatekeeper who becomes an adventurer. The tone is light and playful, with action scenes and a touch of parody. It is a good pick for viewers who enjoy an overpowered hero in a cheerful fantasy setting. The voice cast is led by Azusa Tachibana as Rona. Ai Fairouz plays Elmina, and Honoka Inoue plays Erna. Kana Hanazawa and Maria Naganawa also join the cast. The opening theme is a bright idol-style song by HoneyWorks.
