Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc is a feature film made by the studio MAPPA. It was directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara, with a script by Hiroshi Seko. It opened in Japan on September 19, 2025, and in the United States on October 24, 2025. The film picks up right after the first season of the Chainsaw Man TV anime. It adapts volumes 5 and 6 of the manga (Japanese comic) by Tatsuki Fujimoto. If you have not seen the TV series, it is best to watch it first. The world of Chainsaw Man is a lot like our own, but with one big difference. Devils are real. They are born from the things people fear, and they attack humans. Special teams of devil hunters work for the government to stop them. Denji is a teenager who was once poor, hungry, and deep in debt. He merged with his loyal devil dog, Pochita, and gained a strange power. He can pull a cord in his chest and grow chainsaws from his head and arms. Now he works for Public Safety, a government devil-hunting group, and he is known as Chainsaw Man. Denji's life is better than before. He has food, a place to live, and a job. He is also deeply in love with Makima, his calm and mysterious boss. He lives with two other hunters: Aki, a serious young man, and Power, a loud and wild devil girl. At the start of the film, Denji has just been out with Makima. Then a sudden storm forces him to hide under a roof. There, he runs into Reze, a friendly young woman who works at a small coffee shop. Reze is kind to Denji in a way few people have been. She laughs at his jokes, teaches him small things, and invites him to spend time with her. Denji, who has almost no experience with girls, is quickly confused. Should he stay loyal to his feelings for Makima, or follow this new feeling for Reze? Meanwhile, Aki is dealing with his own worries. He has a new partner, the Angel Devil, and their work together is not easy. As Denji and Reze grow close, a lot of danger is building up around them. The film blends two very different moods. The first half feels like a sweet, awkward summer love story, with night swims and quiet talks. The second half turns into loud, bloody, and fast action. Be aware that, like the TV show, the movie has strong violence and gore. Underneath it all, the story is about loneliness, the wish to be loved, and what it means to have a normal life. The movie was a huge hit. It earned about 191 million US dollars around the world, making it one of the highest-grossing Japanese films ever. Critics praised it too, with 96 percent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers liked its eye-catching animation and its sad but tender heart.
