Kochira, Shuumatsu Teitai Iinkai. can be translated as "This Is the End Stagnation Committee." The word "stagnation" means to stop moving or to slow to a halt. The series began as a light novel, a kind of Japanese novel with anime-style pictures. It is written by Kien Aien and illustrated by Ogipote, and the first book came out on July 10, 2024, under Dengeki Bunko, a popular label from ASCII Media Works. By July 2026 there were six books. A manga version drawn by Yutaka Sakurai started on Kadokawa's Shounen Ace Plus service in April 2025. The series made a strong start. In the 2025 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! guide, a yearly ranking of the best light novels, it placed second among new series and fourth among all paperback books. Then, on October 3, 2026, an anime was announced during the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival Online 2026, an online event from the publisher. Details such as the studio, staff, and start date had not yet been shared at the time. The story starts with a very hard life. Kotoha Kotoyorozu grew up in a temple, but as a child he was kidnapped and forced to work for a criminal gang, a mafia group. He has psychic powers, and the gang called him the "Whisperer." After years of this, he drowns, wishing for a better life. He then gets a second chance at living, and with it, the chance to have the normal school life he never had. But his new school is far from normal. Kotoha ends up at Azure Academy, where he meets a group of girls who call themselves the End Stagnation Committee. They know a secret that most people do not: the world is slowly heading toward its end. All sorts of strange things called "Ends" are pushing it closer to disaster. They can be a strange machine hidden under a pond in Tokyo, a huge snail holding onto the Eiffel Tower in Paris, or even a demon lord who looks like a pretty girl. The interesting twist is the committee's goal. The girls are not trying to save the world forever or wipe out every danger. They only want to slow the end down and buy more time. Their reason is simple and human: they want to enjoy their young years and live a full school life while they still can. The team includes Luna, a robot maid, Hikari Koito, the oldest member and their leader, who has short red hair and animal ears, and Nyao Koshiba, who wears her long hair in twin tails. The series mixes action, adventure, fantasy, science fiction, and the supernatural, and it is often funny as well. Its main idea, fighting not to win but just to keep going a little longer, gives the story a special mood that is both cheerful and a bit sad. For Kotoha, joining the committee may finally be his chance at the happy youth he always wanted.
