Happy Kanako's Killer Life, called Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu in Japanese, is getting a TV anime. The project was announced in mid-October 2026, and it is set to start in April 2027. The studio Drive is making it. Shinji Takamatsu is the director, and he also plans how the story is split across episodes. Yoshiyuki Okubo is designing the characters and is the chief animation director, the person who checks that the drawings stay consistent. The first voice cast named includes Hana Tamegai, Ryota Suzuki, and Junichi Suwabe. The story comes from a comedy comic by Toshiya Wakabayashi. It started in October 2018 as a webcomic, a comic posted online, on the artist's Pixiv page. From April 2019 it ran on Seikaisha's Twi4 account on Twitter and on the Saizensen website. Nine book volumes were out by May 2026, and Seven Seas Entertainment publishes it in English. The English version began in August 2021. The pages are printed in full color, which is unusual for Japanese comics. The main character is Kanako Nishino. She used to work in an office at an advertising company, but she quits because her boss treats her badly. While looking for a new job, she ends up at a company that hires out professional killers. She decides to join anyway. Her first test is a shocking one: she must take out her old boss. She is scared and unsure at first, but she gets it done, and that is how her strange new career begins. The joke of the series is how normal everything feels. Kanako works in a world of guns and secret missions, but her days are still full of everyday work worries, like a strict partner, office rules, and wanting her effort to be noticed. The comedy comes from treating a deadly job like any other office job. The comic gets a lot of its humor from short, sharp scenes and quick punchlines. Around Kanako is a group of odd coworkers and other people. The most important is Sakurai, an experienced killer at the company who becomes her teacher and partner. Other characters include Kazuo Takehara, Omori, Kiyomi Yoshioka, a yakuza boss (yakuza are Japanese gangsters), Kanako's mother, and the president of the company. Before the anime, the story was turned into a live-action drama for the streaming service DMM TV. It was directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa and starred Non as Kanako and Taisuke Fujigaya as Sakurai. The first season had six episodes in February and March 2025. A second season of five episodes streamed from September to October 2026. The anime will be the first time the comic is animated. Because the story includes killing, even though it is played for laughs, it is better for older teens and adults.
