Hiro Momose

Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent is a sweet school romance based on a shojo manga by the artist Naruki. Shojo means comics made mainly for teen girls, and they often focus on feelings and relationships. The manga runs in Kodansha's magazine Bessatsu Friend. It started in 2021, took a short break, and came back in 2022. By late 2025 it had more than 900,000 copies in print. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes it in English. The Japanese title is Megane, Tokidoki, Yankee-kun. A yankee is a Japanese word for a delinquent, a rough teen who gets into fights. The heroine is Hiro Momose, a first-year high school student. Her old school was full of delinquents, and she was often bullied there. Those years left a mark. She now has bleached hair, but inside she just wants a calm and safe school life. She does not want anything to do with bad boys or fights. At her new school, she joins the Support Club. The only other member of that club is her classmate, Dan Ichikura. At first he seems like the perfect quiet student. He has black hair and glasses, and he works hard. The other students like and respect him. But Momose soon learns his secret. In middle school, Ichikura was a well-known delinquent himself. Now he is sorry for his past and is trying very hard to be a better person. Momose agrees to keep his secret. This creates a fun push and pull. Ichikura keeps saying he has changed. But when trouble comes near, his old fighting habits still show up, especially when he wants to protect someone. Momose has to decide if she can trust him. Bit by bit, as they work together in the club, the two grow closer. The story is mostly light and funny, with warm, heart-pounding romance moments. Underneath, it has a kind message. It asks if people can truly change, and if we should judge someone by who they were or by who they are trying to be. It also gently shows how Momose works through her own fear from the past. An anime version is in production. Studio Flad and Wao World are making it, and Makoto Hoshino is the director. It is planned to air on ABC Television and TV Asahi in April 2027. Suzuko Hara voices Momose, and Hiroto Shimizu voices Ichikura.
