Yuruyuru Zukan is a short TV anime for kids and families, based on a popular series of picture books from the Japanese publisher Gakken. The word "zukan" means an illustrated guide or encyclopedia, a book full of pictures and facts. "Yuruyuru" means relaxed, easygoing, or gentle. So the name tells you the idea right away: a soft, friendly guide to the living world. The English subtitle used for the show is "The Lo-fi creatures Guide." The books first came out in June 2017. Each one teaches real facts about animals using cute drawings and four-panel comic strips. A four-panel comic, called yonkoma in Japanese, is a short joke or story told in four small boxes, one above the other. This simple style made the books easy for children to enjoy, and they became a big hit in Japan. The topics are wide. The books cover everyday animals, but also creatures that died out long ago, such as dinosaurs. They even look at monsters from legends and modern myths, like Bigfoot. Some of these subjects could feel scary to a small child. The whole point of the series is to make even the frightening ones feel fun and harmless through gentle jokes and round, cute art. The anime keeps that same spirit. Each short episode picks a subject and shares surprising facts about it, the kind of trivia that makes a viewer say "Wow!" A pigeon named Hato acts as the guide. Hato explains each episode's topic and leads the audience through it. Emi Nitta gives Hato a voice. The show is made in a short format, so each part is quick and easy to watch. It airs inside Animori!, a Sunday program on TV Tokyo and five partner channels, and it started on October 4, 2026. Keizo Abe directs the series at the studios IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio, and Yuta Tamura wrote the music. Yuruyuru Zukan is not a story with a big plot or heroes and villains. It is closer to a fun science lesson with jokes. That makes it a good pick for young children, for parents who want something calm and useful to share with them, and for anyone who simply enjoys learning odd animal facts in a cozy, cheerful way.
