Chibi Godzilla

Chibi Godzilla no Gyakushuu, or Chibi Godzilla Raids Again in English, is a very short comedy series from Toho's famous Godzilla franchise. Its fourth season began on April 1, 2026. In this show, the giant monsters of the films become tiny, cute versions of themselves, the kind of small, round style that anime fans call "chibi." Instead of fighting and smashing cities, they spend their days joking with each other on Monster Island. The series started as a way to celebrate the 65th birthday of the Godzilla films. The little hero first showed up in a 2018 picture book by Chiharu Sakazaki, who also designs the characters for the anime. Toho produces the show, and the studio Pie in the Sky animates it. Taketo Shinkai directs and writes it, and Go Miyazaki is the producer. Each episode is only a few minutes long. The first season's episodes ran less than three minutes each. The humor is built like manzai, a classic kind of Japanese stage comedy. In manzai, two people perform together: one says silly things, and the other one reacts and corrects him. Here, Chibi Godzilla plays the silly one. He is the son of Godzilla, and he badly wants his famous father to notice him and be proud of him. Chibi Mechagodzilla is the calm partner who points out what went wrong. He is a robot who has lost his memory. The show's producer has said the jokes are aimed a bit more at adults, but children enjoy the show too. Many other famous monsters appear around the main pair. Chibi Ghidorah is a three-headed dragon whose heads rarely agree with each other. Chibi Mothra is a shy moth who speaks through the Shobijin, her two tiny fairy helpers. Chibi Rodan is a proud flying monster who faints when someone laughs at him. Fans will also spot small versions of Anguirus, Hedorah, Minilla, Gigan, and others, each one a little nod to the old movies. Season 4 continues this same easy, quick comedy. One new face this time is Chibi Battra, based on the dark rival of Mothra from the 1992 film. Battra is voiced by Inori Minase. The main voices stay the same: Jun Fukuyama plays Chibi Godzilla, Yoshitsugu Matsuoka plays Chibi Mechagodzilla, and Sumi Shimamoto narrates. The show also has an English voice cast. The series has grown a lot since it began. Season 1 had 13 episodes in 2023. Season 2 had 52 episodes and aired as part of Oha Suta, a children's morning program on TV Tokyo. Season 3 had 39 episodes and ran from July 2025 to March 2026. Best of all for new viewers, the episodes are free to watch on Toho's official Godzilla YouTube channel, with English subtitles. Because each episode is so short, it is easy to try one and see if this gentle monster comedy is for you.
