About
Thunder 3 Season 2 is the announced continuation of the science fiction anime Thunder 3. The first season had 12 episodes. It began in July 2026 on Fuji TV's +Ultra block, with Netflix streaming it around the world. The sequel was revealed on September 30, 2026. It is set to arrive in 2027. No exact premiere date has been given yet.
The series is based on a manga that ran in Monthly Shonen Magazine from 2022 to 2026 and was completed in ten volumes. The author wrote under the pen name Yuki Ikeda, which Wikipedia identifies as the artist Hiroya Oku. Studio Unend animated the first season with full CGI, under directors Hiroyuki Seshita and Keisuke Ide.
The story so far follows three ordinary middle school friends, Pyontaro, Tsubame, and Hiroshi, who call themselves the Small 3. A strange disc from their teacher opens a doorway to another Earth, and Pyontaro's little sister Futaba is pulled through and captured by the aliens who rule that world. The boys follow her. They learn that, as cartoon-like kids in a very realistic world, they gain powers far beyond normal people there.
That contrast is the heart of the show's style: the heroes look like simple, cute cartoon figures, while everything around them looks almost photo-real. Season 2 is expected to continue the boys' fight in that other world. Plot details for the new season have not been announced, so it is best to watch the first season before this one.
