The Exiled Heavy Knight Knows How to Game the System began as a web novel by the writer Nekoko. It first appeared on the free novel site Shosetsuka ni Naro in April 2021. The publisher Kodansha picked it up in June 2022 and released it as a light novel, a type of short illustrated novel. Jaian draws the pictures. A manga version by Lee Brocco started on YanMaga Web in February 2022 and later moved to Weekly Young Magazine. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English. The anime comes from the studio GoHands. It premiered on July 3, 2026, and runs for 26 episodes over two seasons in a row. Crunchyroll streams it, and Ludvig Forssell wrote the music.

The story is set in a world of swords and magic that looks like medieval Europe. In this world, every young person awakens a class. A class is a set of fighting skills, like in a role-playing video game. Your class decides a lot about your future. Some classes are seen as great, and some are seen as useless.

The hero is Elymas Edvaughn, a 15-year-old boy. His family is famous for producing Master Swordsmen, one of the most respected classes. Everyone expects Elymas to follow them. Instead, he gets the Heavy Knight class. People in this world think Heavy Knight is broken and weak. They see it as slow and clumsy. His family is ashamed of him. Pierrot is a clown-like class, and like Heavy Knight, people tend to look down on it. His family also keeps playing a part in his life. Malice Edvaughn, a Master Swordsman, acts as a rival.

The show fits into the isekai genre. Isekai means stories where a person is reborn or transported into another world. Many isekai heroes win because they are given a special cheat power. Here, the hero wins with knowledge instead. He knows how the system works, and he uses it better than anyone.
