So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin?

So What's Wrong with Getting Reborn as a Goblin? is the English title of Tensei Goblin Dakedo Shitsumon Aru?, a fantasy anime that began airing in Japan on October 5, 2026. It is based on a manga written by Nazuna Miki and drawn by Tsukasa Araki. The manga has run on Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump website since February 2020, and fifteen volumes had been collected by September 2026. Yen Press publishes it in English. The anime is made by studio Bakkka, directed by Ryuta Kawahara, with scripts by Yuichiro Momose and music by Takenoko Boy.

The show belongs to the isekai genre. Isekai means "another world" in Japanese. In these stories, a person from our world dies or is pulled away and wakes up in a fantasy land. Most isekai heroes come back as a strong knight, a wizard, or a noble. This show takes a funnier and stranger path. Its hero comes back as a goblin, one of the small, weak monsters that heroes usually defeat in the first level of a game.

The hero is Akira Yagami, a 29-year-old office worker who worked with computers. He is a kind man, often too kind for his own good. One day he sees a child in danger on the road and jumps in to help. He saves the child, but he loses his own life. When he opens his eyes again, he is in a world of magic, monsters, and knights, and he is now a goblin. He even still has his glasses.

There is a big problem. In this world, a goblin normally lives for only seven days. That is a very short life. But Akira's sad and brave death gives him a special gift: he can live for about eighty years instead. With this rare skill, a long life ahead of him, and a mind from the modern world, Akira has the chance to do something no goblin has done before. His goal is to grow and become the strongest goblin of all. He also arrives at an interesting time. The Demon Lord of this world has just died, but that does not mean peace. New threats are already rising.

Akira does not travel alone for long. Chloe, a young woman with long black hair, becomes one of his main companions. Karen, a knight who works as a security inspector, also joins his group. Other characters such as Simon and Eirene appear along the way. Through these friendships, the show mixes action and adventure with comedy, drama, and a little romance.

Part of the fun is watching a gentle office worker try to live as a monster that everyone expects to be evil and short-lived. The series asks simple but interesting questions. What makes someone a monster? Can kindness survive in a harsh fantasy world? The opening song is "Hello" by Sou, and the ending song is "Little Us" by AHUB. The anime airs on Tokyo MX, BS11, and Sun TV, and it streams on Crunchyroll and on ABEMA and Prime Video in Japan, where new episodes appear one week before the TV broadcast.
