Shin Oishinbo

Shin Oishinbo, which means New Oishinbo, is a new TV anime version of the classic food manga Oishinbo. It was announced on September 19, 2026, at the ABEMA Anime Festival 2026, during a stage event celebrating the 50th anniversary of Shin-Ei Animation. That is the same company that made the first Oishinbo anime, which aired from 1988 to 1992. The new series is planned to begin in Japan in 2027. No exact date has been given yet.

The team behind the new show was also revealed. Kenichi Nishida is the director. Takahiro Nagano handles series composition, which means planning how the story is split into episodes. Nozomi Kawashige designs the characters. The animation is made by SynergySP and Vega Entertainment, with Shin-Ei Animation also credited. A teaser picture showed the main characters next to their voice actors. Yohei Azakami voices the hero, Shiro Yamaoka. Hitomi Sasaki voices Yuko Kurita. Akio Otsuka voices Yuzan Kaibara.

The original manga was written by Tetsu Kariya and drawn by Akira Hanasaki. It began in Shogakukan's magazine Big Comic Spirits in October 1983 and has been on an indefinite break since May 2014. With 111 volumes and over 135 million copies sold, it is among the best-selling manga in history.

The basic story is expected to follow the manga. The newspaper Tozai News wants to celebrate its 100th anniversary. For this, it starts a big project to create the Ultimate Menu, a collection of the very best Japanese dishes. Shiro Yamaoka, a journalist who seems lazy and cynical but has a great sense of taste and deep knowledge of food, is put in charge. Yuko Kurita works with him. His father, Yuzan Kaibara, is a proud and strict food expert who has a long, bitter conflict with his son.

Oishinbo is known for teaching viewers about real ingredients, cooking, and food culture while telling a human drama about work and family. Fans of food anime will want to watch for more news before the 2027 premiere.
