About
This entry is the second TV season of Sabikui Bisco, the anime based on Shinji Cobkubo's award-winning light novels from Dengeki Bunko. The new season was first announced in July 2023, during the Dengeki Bunko 30th Summer Festival Online event, an online show held by the light novel label. Fans had waited since the first season ended in March 2022. At the time of writing, we could not confirm an exact premiere date, so check back for updates.
Here is what the series is about. Japan has been ruined by the Rust, a deadly wind that slowly turns machines, land, and living things into rust. People fall sick, and the land is mostly desert. Bisco Akaboshi is a young Mushroom Keeper and a wanted outlaw. He is a sharp-eyed archer whose arrows make giant mushrooms burst from the ground. He rides a huge crab named Actagawa.
In the first season, Bisco teamed up with Milo Nekoyanagi, a gentle young doctor from the town of Imihama who treats people sick from the Rust. Together they searched for Sabikui, a legendary mushroom said to eat away rust and heal the land. Their very different personalities, one wild and one kind, made them a strong team, and their friendship became the heart of the show.
The second season continues the story of this pair. Its tags point to the same mix as before: a ruined world after disaster, medicine and sickness, archery, and a cast made up mostly of young people. Bisco and Milo remain the two main characters. The light novels go on for many more books after the part covered in season one, so there is plenty of new material for the anime to adapt.
If you have not seen the series yet, it is best to start with the first season. It sets up the world, the Rust, and the bond between the two heroes, which this new season builds on.
