About
Girls und Panzer: Motto Love Love Sakusen Desu! is a comedy spin-off of the well-known Girls und Panzer franchise. It is based on a gag manga by Maruko Nii, which has run in Kadokawa's magazine Monthly Comic Alive since 2013 and has more than twenty volumes. The anime is made by two studios working together, P.A. Works and Actas. Masami Shimoda directs, Takahiko Usui is series director, Noboru Kimura writes the scripts, and Shiro Hamaguchi returns to compose the music.
First, some context about the main series. Girls und Panzer, which first aired in 2012, takes place in a world where driving old World War II tanks is a sport for young women. This sport is called sensha-do, which means "the way of the tank." People treat it like a proper, graceful art, similar to flower arranging or tea ceremony, and schools compete in big matches. Many schools in this world are built on top of giant ships that sail the sea, so each school is like a small floating town.
The heroine of the franchise is Miho Nishizumi, a shy girl who moves to Oarai Girls High School and ends up leading its tank club. Her crew is made up of four friends. Saori Takebe is cheerful and always thinking about love and dating. Hana Isuzu is calm and polite. Yukari Akiyama is a huge fan of tanks and military history. Mako Reizei is a sleepy but very smart girl who drives their tank.
The original show is about serious matches and saving the school. This spin-off is different. It turns away from the big battles and looks at what happens between them. The episodes are short comedy pieces about the girls' ordinary school days, their friendships, and their silly, low-stakes adventures, along with the rival schools from the main series. The jokes often come from putting very different personalities in the same room. The tone is light and relaxed, a bit like a "cute girls doing cute things" show, which is a common anime style where friendship and daily fun matter more than plot.
The voice cast from the main franchise returns, including Mai Fuchigami, Ai Kayano, Mami Ozaki, Ikumi Nakagami, and Yuka Iguchi. This helps the spin-off feel like a natural part of the same world.
The release was unusual. Instead of starting on TV, the series first played in Japanese cinemas as four separate "acts." The first act opened at the end of 2025, and a new one followed every month or so until spring 2026. After that run in theaters, it came to regular Japanese television in the fall of 2026. For fans who love the cast of Girls und Panzer, it is a chance to spend easy, funny time with them away from the pressure of the tournaments.
