About
A Tale of the Secret Saint is a fantasy adventure about a girl who hides a great power. The TV anime premieres on October 3, 2026. Studio Felix Film makes it, with Tomoe Makino as director. Crunchyroll streams it around the world. The story is based on a light novel series by Touya, with art by chibi. It began as a web novel in January 2019 and became a book series from Earth Star Entertainment that June. There were 12 volumes by January 2026, and Seven Seas publishes it in English. The series is very popular. It had more than 2.7 million copies in circulation by mid-2024, and it placed second in the Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! rankings for several years in a row.
The heroine is Fia Ruud. She comes from a family of knights, and ever since she was small, she has wanted to become a knight too. The problem is that she is the least talented person in her family. Her brothers and sisters are strong, while she struggles. Still, she refuses to give up and trains as hard as she can.
The day of her big test arrives. To prove herself, she must go out and defeat a small monster. Instead, she comes face to face with a huge black dragon. She is badly hurt and close to death. In that moment, memories from a past life suddenly come back to her. Long ago, about 300 years before, she was Seraphina, the Great Saint. A saint in this world is someone with powerful holy magic that can heal and protect. As Seraphina, she helped defeat the Demon King. With her old power awake again, Fia survives the attack. She even forms a special bond, called a contract, with the black dragon, whose name is Zavilia.
But Fia does not want anyone to know the truth. Her past life as a saint ended in great pain, and the reason was tied to who she was. Because of this, she is afraid of ever living as a saint again. So she keeps her healing powers secret and tries to live only as a knight. This is harder than it sounds. She is kind and cannot ignore people in need, so she keeps using her magic in small ways, and people around her begin to notice strange things.
The series mixes knightly adventure, comedy, and mystery. Much of the fun comes from Fia's cheerful, slightly clumsy personality and her attempts to hide what she can do. It is a good pick for fans of stories about a hidden, overpowered heroine and a friendly dragon companion.
